Product Overview
ASTM A709 Grade 50W Corten Weathering Steel is a high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) structural steel manufactured to ASTM A709/A709M standards. It provides excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance, high strength, and good weldability, forming a stable protective oxide layer that helps reduce maintenance and extend service life in outdoor environments.

Key Advantages
Synergistic alloying with Copper, Chromium, and Nickel produces a stable rust-like patina that protects the steel matrix from further degradation without secondary coating.
Meets strict Charpy V-notch energy absorption requirements, making it suitable for critical fracture-critical and non-fracture-critical bridge components under cold-climate conditions.
Delivers a guaranteed minimum yield strength of 345 MPa (50 ksi), reducing structural weight while maintaining structural safety.
Formulated with controlled carbon equivalents (Ceq) to allow reliable field welding, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and cold forming using standard structural shop practices.

Welding & Fabrication Guidelines
Welding Processes: Easily welded using standard Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW).
Consumables: To ensure the weld seam develops matching weathering characteristics and strength, matching low-alloy consumables (such as E8018-W or AWS A5.28 ER80S-W) are recommended for exposed passes.
Forming: Cold bending should be performed in accordance with ASTM A6 standard bend radii guidelines.

In-House Quality Assurance
Ultrasonic Testing (UT): 100% volumetric inspection compliant with ASTM A435 / ASTM A578 Level A/B to guarantee freedom from internal laminations.
Dimensional & Surface Tolerances: Controlled per ASTM A6/A6M standards.
Traceability: Heat number and steel grade are permanently hard-stamped on every plate, fully linked to the accompanying MTC.

Export Packaging & Maritime Transport Security
Surface Treatment & Protection: Lightly oiled, clear lacquered, or wrapped in heavy-duty waterproof craft paper upon request.
Bundling & Corner Guarding: Strapped using heavy-duty steel bands with plastic edge protectors; mounted on reinforced wooden pallets or steel runners for forklift and crane handling.
Container & Breakbulk Lashing: Secured inside containers or breakbulk holds with heavy-duty lashing belts, anti-slip rubber mats, wood dunnage, and industrial desiccant bags to prevent moisture accumulation.

Verification & Documentation
EN 10204 3.1 MTC: Issued directly by the mill's QA lab, detailing heat chemistry, mechanical results, impact values, and UT certification.
Third-Party Inspection (TPI): SGS, BV, LR, or ABS inspection supported upon client request.
System Certifications: ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, CE Marking (EN 1090-1).
